Michael S. Borgos

Michael S. Borgos has been practicing law in this community for over 18 years.  Mike considers himself a general practitioner and spends the majority of his time assisting clients with Business Formation, Management and Advising, Residential and Commercial Real Estate Transactions, Real Estate Development, Zoning, and Planning, Elder Law, Estate Planning (including preparation of Wills, Trusts, Powers of Attorney and Health Care Proxies), Probate of Estates, Personal Injury Claims and Litigation.  Of course, from time to time clients Mike has assisted in the past will call to have him handle a traffic ticket, DWI or criminal charge.  Mike encourages calls regarding any legal matter; if it is not within his established practice area, he will give a referral to a trusted and reputable colleague.  Mike often tells his children that he spends his days at work “problem solving”, since that is a more accurate description than “practicing law”.  The firm’s catchphrase, “Guiding You Through Life’s Ups and Downs”, was developed by Mike as a result of his explanations of what it is that he does as a lawyer.  The law permeates every aspect of society and one of the primary roles of the lawyer is to guide the client through unfamiliar and often confusing laws and regulations that govern every day life.

Mike graduated in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame and finds he utilizes this knowledge to better assist his clients in finding practical solutions to legal problems.  In many instances, it is important to provide comfort, reassurance and perspective to a client faced with a difficult situation.  Charting a course, developing a strategy and explaining potential outcomes are essential services a client needs in order to properly evaluate the route they choose to take when making an informed decision.  While at Notre Dame, Mike was also on the Varsity Track and Field team throwing the hammer, discus and javelin; today, he enjoys hiking through the beautiful Adirondacks, which he is fortunate enough to call his backyard.  In 1995 Mike graduated from Albany Law School of Union University with honors and is a Lifetime Member of the Justinian Society.  After just four short years of practicing Law, Mike became a Partner with Muller & Muller in 2000 and then joined Mark Del Signore to form Borgos & Del Signore, P.C. in 2004.  Mike was recognized by the Post Star as a “20 Under 40” recipient in 2007.

Community involvement has always been extremely important to Mike.  He is the Immediate Past Chairman of the Economic Development Corporation, Warren County, and remains very active in its various working committees and continues to serve on the not for profit’s executive committee while chairing the affiliated Hudson River Local Development Corporation.  In the past, he served as President of the Warren County Local Development Corporation and remains a member of that entity’s Business Review Committee.  Providing opportunities for youths to succeed through involvement in athletics is also a passion of Mike’s.  He has been a volunteer on the program committee for the New York State High School Basketball Championships for more than fifteen years and is a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Glens Falls Amateur Athletic Championship Association, Inc.  He is a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #81 and ran the local level “Hoop Shoot” for several years.  Mike is the President of the Robert J. Nolan Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation which awards $5,000.00 annual (renewable for up to four years) scholarships to high school seniors who exemplify an involved, community-oriented student athlete.  Nolan Foundation recipients must demonstrate excellence in academics, athletics, extracurricular school related activities, religious/civic/community service and financial need.  Mike’s involvement in the Nolan Foundation is particularly rewarding to him, as he was one of the original recipients in 1988 when he graduated Valedictorian from Queensbury High School.  He enjoyed a recent stint as a member of an ad hoc committee of the Glens Falls Civic Center Foundation tasked with suggesting aesthetic, physical and infrastructure improvements and revenue enhancement models to improve the appearance and utilization of the Civic Center.  Mike was also fortunate to be part of the Kensington Road School PTA Playground Committee which organized, planned, permitted and constructed the first Natural Playground at a New York State Public School.

Professionally, as a member of the Warren County Bar Association, Mike has been involved in the drafting and implementation of the 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2013 versions of the Warren County Bar Association/Warren County Association of Realtors standard form residential real estate contract and has participated in the Lawyers in the Classroom program as part of Law Day observations over the years.  He regularly presents the updated contract to the Realtors as part of a round table discussion of members of the local bar association.  Mike has also presented topical lectures to local insurance professional organizations and has conducted a seminar for adult students enrolled in the Warren and Washington Counties Small Business/Micro Enterprise Loan Program.  He is a Member of the New York State Bar Association and the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Mike’s other passions are spending time with his wife and three children, playing golf, enjoying the great outdoors and even undertaking DIY projects!
